Established in 2018, the Juniors Program, presented by the PianoTexas International Festival & Academy provides an all-encompassing musical experience for pianists in their most formative years.
The Juniors Program is not a competition; it is a place where talent is nurtured through performances and interaction with esteemed musicians in a highly inspiring and exciting musical environment. Of particular interest is the opportunity to perform concertos with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. The superb facilities of the School of Music, TCU include three concert halls (with live streaming capability), teaching studios and practicing rooms.
To provide a complete musical experience, a limited number of performers will be accepted. An independent selection panel will evaluate the applications. Teachers/mentors of these young performers are most welcome attend the program with them.

Juniors Performers include participants who were born on or after June 1, 2005
Active and General Observers: No age limit.
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult enrolled as a general
observer.

Concerto performance with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra

The experience of performing with an orchestra is of paramount importance in building a career in the music profession. With this in mind, PianoTexas is one of the very few International Festival in the world that collaborates with a professional orchestra to perform with selected Juniors in a public concert.
Soloists will be selected through a competition with a second piano.
Rehearsals will be arranged.
The beautiful Van Cliburn Concert Hall with its superb acoustics will be the home of the Juniors Concerto Concert.
We strongly encourage the all Juniors performers to participate in the concerto competition.

Juniors performers will be scheduled to play in recitals. These recitals take place in the superb acoustics of the three concert halls on the TCU campus. They are the heart of our program and allows for excellent experiences during the Festival.
All recitals are open to the general public and are recorded and streamed over the Internet. Performances will be also available as part of the Media Package for the participants to purchase.
Repertoire submitted for PianoTexas may be used for both master classes and recitals.
Each performer is limited to no more than12 minutes per performance.
The Executive Director is responsible for organizing these recitals and his decision is final.
Each performer will have one master class with a guest artist. To enable an overall program balance, applicants are to submit at least two or more pieces. Concerto repertoire may be included, but the concerto selected for the concerto competition may not be performed before the competition.
The Executive Director is responsible for the allocation of performers and selection of repertoire for the master classes and his decisions are final.
The Master Classes are open to the general public. They are recorded and streamed over the Internet. Master Classes will be also available as part of the Media Package for the participants to purchase. The repertoire must be performed from memory.
Juniors performers will receive two private lessons (each of 50 minutes) with different guest artists. These lessons provide opportunities for in-depth examination and discussion of musical and technical matters, so although the choice is free, the repertoire should be carefully considered.
The Executive Director is responsible for the allocation of all private lessons and his decisions are final.
Additional private lessons are possible, at extra cost, depending on the availability of the guest artists. The scheduling and fees should be discussed directly between the guest artist and the participant.
PianoTexas is committed to providing the performers in the Juniors Program a challenging and satisfying experience. Performers will have the opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. They will have solo performance opportunities, participate in a master class and receive two private lessons.
Therefore, for a beneficial experience, Junior Performers are expected to come prepared with several works of their choice to participate fully in the Festival. All works must be memorized and selected to represent the Performer’s highest artistic ability.

PianoTexas warmly welcomes observers of all ages. This is a great opportunity to witness teaching by many different artists of International standing, to hear the concerto and solo concerts presented by PianoTexas, as well as to attend the “Conversations with Guest Artists”.
Active Observers receive two private lessons as well as a performance opportunity in one recital.
General observers are most welcome to join in all events organized by PianoTexas.
Depending on the availability of the guest artists, private lessons are possible, at extra cost. The scheduling and fees should be discussed directly between the guest artist and the participant.
Scheduled practice time are arranged for each performer with practice rooms equipped with grand pianos.
Active observers are most welcome to use practice facilities when not occupied by performers. There are also a number of practice rooms with upright pianos, open and free for everyone to practice. All practice rooms are open 24 hours a day.
“Conversations” are light-hearted affairs, in which PianoTexas’ vastly experienced guest artists share valuable information along with entertaining stories and anecdotes of a life in music.
These highly popular, informal question-and-answer sessions provide excellent opportunities for constructive interactive dialogues on such important topics as the music profession, careers, recording, performing, practicing, competitions and understanding of styles.
Performers of the Juniors Program have the option to purchase the PianoTexas Media Package. This is a collection of each participant’s recorded performances, master classes and photos.
At the conclusion of the Program, these Media Packages are individually uploaded.
PianoTexas offer two different accommodations:
All accommodations in TCU dormitories are conveniently located close to the School of Music. They are fully air-conditioned, with comfortable lounges, large common kitchens, laundry rooms, and spacious bedrooms. Although many include a shared en-suite bathroom, most occupants will share conveniently located communal bathrooms. All bedrooms are equipped with linens and towels, a small refrigerator and a microwave. A meal plan is combined with the accommodations. Numerous restaurants are also situated within easy walking distance.

In accordance with the requirement of Texas Christian University, a parent or guardian must accompany any under 18-year old participant. Accompanying adults have to apply as General Observers regardless of their selection of university, the Hyatt Place or other off campus accommodation.
